Eye screening

Annual eye screening for people with diabetes

If you have diabetes, every year you will receive a letter inviting you to come for 'eye screening'. This is a simple test where a special camera takes a photograph of the back of your eye - the retina. This is then examined carefully for any damage there may be, so that it can be potentially fixed before it becomes more serious.

Diabetes is the leading cause of blindness in the UK and most of it is preventable by good diabetes care and annual eye screening appointments. So don't ignore that letter! If you have missed out and want to make an appointment, you can do so by telephoning the eye screening service directly on 0300 365 3937. The appointments office is open Monday to Friday 09.00-17.00.
