Community pharmacists

In addition to your GP and specialist/practice nurse, community pharmacists can offer useful help and advice for you, for example in the following ways:
  • Suggest advice and information about your condition and where to get further help
  • They can advise about some health interventions, healthy living, nutrition and diet, exercise, weight management, advice and guidance for stopping smoking
  • Medicines use review including discussing with you about possible side effects of medicines
  • They can advise about the use of syringes, pumps and other devices, about caring for your injection sites,  how to look after your insulin
  • Use of new medicines
  • Follow up care and advice including travel advice and helping you stick to your prescription and use all your medicines properly

NHS Berkshire has Community Pharmacies evenly distributed across the local area. Community Pharmacists:

  • are very accessible and many are open for 7 days a week
  • have a  responsibility to display information that you may find useful
  • offer a completely confidential service
